Matthew's Childrens Book 4/8

The Big Yawn
By Keith Faulkner
This children’s book is simple narrative which in many ways is similar to “There Was an Old Woman”. The text from each page is featured on every subsequent page due to holes in pages and this continues throughout the book. The illustrations are cute and really convey the tone of the book, which is ‘the feeling of being tired” through a series of yawing animals. The structure of the book may also contribute to student understanding of the concept of increasing sizes due to the animals progressively get bigger as the story unfolds.

  1. I loved this book Matt! I really enjoyed having the opportunity to read it in class. I found it so fun and engaging through the unique format and illustrations. This would be a fantastic text to use with young students.
